Hello Tokyo - “Girls” (Beastie Boys cover)

At Tuneage, we’re lucky enough to receive emails from people around the world who have fun, interesting music projects. One such project comes from Spanish pop/electronic site Buffet Libre in the form of their latest project, Rewind.

Rewind takes current bands and has them covering and remixing their favorite 80s songs. There are currently over 60 tracks from bands like Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin, Dragonette, Hello Tokyo, the Cloud Room, and a ton more covering classics like “The Safety Dance”, “Take On Me”, and “Blue Monday”. It’s a great project idea that oozes nostalgia for those of us who have a soft spot for the 80s.

One of my favorites so far is Hello Tokyo’s cover of the Beastie Boys’ classic, “Girls”. The cover doesn’t stray too far from the original, but still manages to feel fresh (so if you liked the original, and I trust that you did, I think you’ll like this too). Once you’re done with this, head over to Buffet Libre and check out the other 59 tracks; I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.

I’m really digging this song! Especially when they mix is with N*E*R*D…
